Every year the E2 Tech Council works with member companies and organizations, as well as government agencies and political leadership, to advance sector-wide job growth, research and development, and new product commercialization.  Our goal is to create a strong environmental and energy technology economy in Maine that generates opportunities for you.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF THIS EFFORT?

•    The sector-wide opportunity:  We believe that environmental and energy technology will help drive economic growth and opportunity in Maine over the next 20 years. But with economic data on Maine’s environmental and energy technology industry 13 years old, an update is in order. The E2 Tech Council is partnering this year with the Maine Technology Institute and the University of Maine to conduct an economic impact analysis and business climate survey. This $130,000 effort ($59,000 provided by MTI and the balance provided by various cash and in-kind matches) will provide data that will help companies make business decisions and provide economic development and business recruitment information to organizations such as the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, Maine & Company, the Maine International Trade Center and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.

•    The business to business opportunity:  We believe that companies derive a substantial business development benefit from their E2 membership. The E2 Tech Council’s current membership totals 85 companies, government agencies, educational institutions and non-profit organizations.  Through relationships formed within E2 Tech, many organizations are doing business together or jointly pursuing project opportunities. Nearly one half of membership is either engaged in the generation/transmission/regulation/conservation of energy or is providing engineering, legal or other services in those areas.

•    The collaborative opportunity: We believe that economic challenges are often met successfully because of strong partnerships formed by innovative organizations. E2 has helped forge collaborations between private companies and non-profit organizations to address new uses of forest resources in Western Maine demonstrate the viability of hydrogen energy systems and illustrate the immediate opportunities for increased use of solar energy.

These are just the highlights from another busy year for the E2 Tech Council. We hope you are benefiting from participation in our organization. We thank you for your support!
