    Maine Department of Environmental Protection Issues Draft Wind Energy Act Rules

    After more than a year of pre-rulemaking process including the issuance of two drafts, the Maine DEP has commenced formal rulemaking and today issued draft rules for wind energy developments in Maine. The formal draft largely tracks the most recent pre-rulemaking version issued in January 2017. The draft rules include standards for evaluating scenic impacts, limits on shadow flicker, provisions related to public safety, and requirements for demonstrating significant tangible benefits.

    MCED is pleased to announce, with their partners, that applications for the Top Gun 2018 class are open now!

    Many high potential Maine entrepreneurs have benefited from MCED's Top Gun program, which has evolved considerably since it was first offered in fall 2009. At its core, Top Gun is designed to accelerate entrepreneurial development using training, mentoring, and the development of community connections. Top Gun 2018 will be held in Bangor, Lewiston/Auburn, Portland and new this year, a specialized Aquaculture cohort will be held in Brunswick. 

    To Apply for Top Gun entrepreneurs must: 

    1. Please submit the application by January 12, 2018.
    2. Email a pitch deck (5-7 slide limit) to tgapplications@mced.biz.
    3. Upon receipt of the application and pitch deck you will receive an email confirmation and instructions for scheduling an in-person interview. Interviews will take place in each region between January 16th-20th.

    Under the MEMA umbrella, DECD is the lead state agency for economic recovery efforts following a major event such as the storm that arrived on October 29th. We are collecting information on business storm damage to assist MEMA with storm damage assessment and to prepare documentation to submit to FEMA. The ultimate goal is to allow businesses access to the Small Business Administration's federal resources to cover uninsured losses.

    Former New England District Commander of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Joins Normandeau Associates

    Bedford, NH – Colonel Christopher Barron, Retired, former Commander of the New England District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has joined Normandeau Associates, Inc. as a Senior Regulatory Specialist.  Colonel Barron will focus on the management of large, complex projects and continued expansion and strategic development of Normandeau Associates.  Colonel Barron will add high level regulatory expertise to the firm in the areas of environmental impact studies, licensing and permitting for energy projects, harbor dredging, transportation and other infrastructure projects.  He will also play a major role in strengthening relationships with state agencies, with an emphasis on the Northeastern U.S.
