Member-led online discussions on diverse topics of timely interest

In the movement to stem greenhouse gas emissions and the warming of the planet, not nearly enough attention is given to the negative impacts of building with high embodied carbon materials, such as steel, concrete, and glass. At the same time, wood has huge potential to replace materials with higher carbon impacts. Wood sequesters carbon and is unusual among building materials in that it is strong in both tension and compression. More and more architects are specifying structural wood products.

How can we promote wood building materials such as mass timber and cross-laminated timber in Maine, and could producing the material here in Maine make sense?

Join Ellen Belknap, President of SMRT Architects & Engineers, in what is sure to be a lively and interesting discussion of this sustainable economic growth opportunity.
