Last week, E2Tech in partnership with the Roux Institute held an event around geophysics and climate research ahead of the American Geophysicist Union (AGU) conference this week. The presenters ranged from topics such as ocean alkalinity enhancement to understanding how hot droughts are effecting the climate in the American southwest and Mexico. We will be engaged with new events with the Roux Institute in the new year and hope you can join us at an upcoming event! The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) has a new Executive Director: Andrew Zarro. Andrew has been with the Greater Portland Council of Governments, where he builds and maintains relationships with regional officials on projects such as the Great Maine Neighborhoods campaign and co-hosting the "Let's Connect Greater Portland" radio show and podcast. Andrew is also a former Portland City Councilor. BCM supports better walking, biking, and rolling in Maine through education, advocacy, outreach, and events. GPCOG and BCM are both members of E2Tech, as is the City of Portland. The new $4B economic development legislation in Massachusetts includes significant funding for cleantech and climatetech: infrastructure for offshore wind, brownfields cleanup, battery research, funds for workforce development, etc. etc. The clean-tech sector in Mass employs 110,000 people, as compared to 117,000 in biopharma, and Mass leads the nation in per-capita climatetech startups -- California has more start-ups, but it also has more people. Since southern Maine is only 13 miles from Massachusetts, there will be spill-over effects here. E2Tech is one of thousands of nonprofits that operate in Maine. Some are large and some are small, and each is playing a role in improving our state. While we are not expecting E2Tech to be your most important charitable cause -- for some it's their church; for others it's their college or something health-related. If your career in environment or energy community has been good to you, we ask that you support E2Tech in this giving season. Your gifts make it possible for us to provide free registrations to students and public officials, host networking events for early-career professionals, and attract new talent to our sector.
