(sign up here) Other Updates: Many thanks to the 100+ members of our community who braved an upcoming winter snowstorm last Thursday to come to Augusta for our Annual Legislative Breakfast and meet with / hear from legislative and executive branch leaders talk about current developments in Maine.
In terms of registrations, it was our largest ever Augusta program, and participants came from 75+ companies, agencies and organizations. In addition to discussing technologies and environmental issues, GEO had copies of the recently released Maine Energy Plan. Many thanks to DEP Commissioner Melanie Loyzim, Sen. Tepler + Rep. Campbell plus PUC Chair Phil Bartlett, Rep. Sachs + Rep. Foster for their comments and to Kat Joyce and Bill Ferdinand for moderating.

The Maine Technology Institute’s Environmental Technology Board met last week in Portland to discuss efforts to boost tech innovation in Maine. In addition to their annual funding stream from the Maine Legislature, the MTI is also administering the $25M bond issue for Research, Development, and Commercialization that was approved last fall by Maine’s voters. Since 1999, MTI has disbursed over $372 million across more than 4,000 distinct projects throughout Maine and that funding has leveraged well over $2.2 billion in private sector matching investment.
Recent awards include Roamr’s comprehensive, integrated hardware and software to streamline, optimize, and enhance electric fleet management; OPAL Build’s offsite building system with panelization and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) pod construction; Dirigo Sea Farm which is using Maine kelp to produce bioplastic films to replace single-use and non-biodegradable plastic, and Shell Labs which will help the 45k+ public water systems in the US submit and distribute federally-mandated reports. Awards are also available to firms of all sizes that are bringing new technologies to Maine, not just to firms that are creating their own tech products and services. Employee Recruiting/Internships: The ReMaine program has expanded to cover more hours and provide higher subsidies on wages. As in past two years, E2Tech is again helping our members secure early-career employees. ReMaine covers all of the administrative tasks for having interns/temporary employees and pays for about half of their salary. Businesses, agencies, organizations and municipalities from around the state have participated. Funded through GEO, the 8-12 weeks can start at any time. Details available online (E2Tech website) or call us at 207-800-TECH.
